A digital micrsocope is made up fo a camera unit and a controller. The field emission microscope, field ion microscoep, and the Atom Probe are examples of point-prjoection microscopes where ions are excited form a needle-shaped speciemn and hit a detector. Optical microscopes, through their use of ivsible wavelengths of light, are the simplest and hence most widely used type of microscope. Typical magnification of a light microscope is up to 1500x with a theoretical rseolution of around 0.2 micrometres.
